Initial Weigh-In – 12/02/2015

Broken Scale322.4  Sadly, that number didn’t surprise me.

For the few months (years, really), I’ve been bouncing between 313 to 325.  That doesn’t surprise me considering my eating patterns and complete lack of exercise.

I am finally ready to do something about my weight before it does something [bad] to me.

Why “Now, Not Next Monday”?

Every overweight person knows the mantra, “I’ll start dieting / exercising next Monday.” What’s really amazing is how that mantra gets repeated week after week with no change ever occurring.  A lot of overweight folks will repeat the mantra consistently until mid-November.  Once Thanksgiving is on the horizon, they will stop deceiving themselves for a week and skip the “next Monday” which starts the week of Thanksgiving.  To make up for it, they double-down and insist they they will start the following Monday.  The deception occurs for another week or two until they finally throw in the towel for the Christmas and New Years Eve holidays, only to make a New Years resolution that they will start on January 1st.  They might actually change for a few days, only to start the process anew.

I admit that I followed this pattern for decades.  After years of thinking life would start to change “next Monday,” I finally decided that the time to start is now, not next Monday – hence the name of this blog. I lost track years ago of the number of times I told myself that next Monday” I would start eating better, exercising, and losing weight.  On rare occasions, I would get my sh*t together for a few days in a row, only to fall off the wagon.  Rather than resume immediately, I would give up and tell myself that I would get back on track “next Monday.”    Monday would come and go, and within a week or two I would repeat the “next Monday” mantra.

I know that I should have emphasized diet, exercise, and fitness years ago.  I’m fortunate that I don’t have any major health issues yet, but I know that will change very soon if I don’t start making changes immediately.  With each passing day, I knew this to be more true and that it was time for me to forget about “next Monday” and focus on “now.”

I setup this blog so that I will have a place to keep track of my progress and my thoughts as I am changing my life.  My goal is to post a few times per week.  If I miss that goal for some reason, I will consider it a huge victory if I am able to pick-up where I left off and get back on track instead of deleting everything up to that point and starting over.

Well, “now” is here and I’m on my way to changing my life.  Here I go. . . .
